Vida e insólitas aventuras del soldado Iván Chonkin, de Vladímir Voinóvich, escrita en 1969, retrata con ironía (¿por qué será que este recurso resulta más eficaz que la crítica abierta y despiadada?) la degradación moral de la sociedad soviética, el demencial funcionamiento burocratizado que llevó a su autodestrucción.Todavía hoy queda pendiente el análisis de la caída de un régimen, de un país, que realizó proezas extraordinarias en su "carrera" con Estados Unidos (y pagó un alto coste por ello). ¿Qué había realmente bajo esa aparente uniformidad? ¿Cómo mantener el espíritu revolucionario cuando la primera generación, la generación de héroes que han realizado la hazaña de conquistar el poder, pasa? Tal vez los barros económicos que vivimos estos días vienen, en parte, de aquellos polvos, de aquel antagonista al capitalismo que parece que se llevó el viento y, con él, a toda la izquierda.

The Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin, written in 1969 by Vladimir Voinovich, uses irony (why is irony such a powerful tool, far more effective than a severe criticism?) to reflect the moral decline of Soviet society, the demented bureaucratic interworkings which led them to self destruction.The causes of the fall of a regime, of a nation, which made some awsome feats (at a high price) in its "competition" against the USA, remain unclear. What lay beneath the apparent uniformity? How is it possible to maintain the revolutionary spirit of the first generation, of the heroes who achieved the extraordinary by taking over power, when said generation has passed? Maybe, in a way, today's economic downturn is related to the fall of an antagonist which apparently, together with the left, was carried away by the wind.
